New Farm: The Second Week

The reward for good work on JASDVG Farm is more work!

Day eight of a new game of Stardew Valley kicks off with rain. So, not needing to water crops and being low on copper, I took a trip to the mines. On level 14 I encountered a hermit crab that dropped a crab which was the last thing I needed to complete the crab pot bundle in the community centre. A good bundle to complete this early in the game, and which rewarded me with a set of crab pots. On the way home I took a trip to the beach to place them in the water with some bait, in hopes of catching some more crabbing fish to sell. The night ended with another two level-ups, with a second level of mining and first in combat.

Day nine started with the usual chores: watering crops and loading the furnace with more copper ore to process into bars. Then it was off to town for a trip to Clint’s and the community centre, to drop off some items in the Boiler Room. I also swung by Pierre’s for some replacement seeds now that my second lot of parsnips were ready. Farm maintenance done for the day, I spent the rest of the time felling trees in the forest. I used the wood from that afternoon to repair the beach bridge, giving me access to new forageable items in the rock pools.

Day ten was another sunny day, so I started with watering before heading into the mines to slay slimes for a quest. After a day of being in the mines, I managed to get to Lewis’s house before it closed, handing in the Slime Slayer quest and getting my first prize ticket. Some newly planted carrot seeds later, my day was done.

Day eleven started with Robin asking me to find her lost axe — and 500g in the post for me! Once I was done on the farm I was out and about in the valley, starting in the forest to collect Robin’s axe and forage the new crop of spring onions. Willy had a quest on the board for s batch of sardines, so it was off to the beach to catch them and hand them straight in. I finished the day by cutting down a couple more trees, taking me to level four in foraging.

Day twelve is the day before the Egg Festival. After quickly watering crops and putting some more ore on, I headed down to the forest to visit the travelling merchant, but today there wasn’t much in stock that I need. I spent the day again between the farm and forest, chopping down as many trees as I can to get the sap for the bundle.

Sunny weather again on day thirteen so I added some extra space to my crop field, so that I had plenty of room for the strawberry seeds that I would be picking up at the Egg Festival. I had also harvested my first gold-quality cauliflower, so I put that aside to go into the Community Centre. At the Festival I bought 26 strawberry seeds, talked to everyone from Pelican Town, before I spoke to Lewis to trigger the main event: the egg hunt. I rounded up 11 hidden eggs, winning the hunt and getting the straw hat that I wasted no time in putting on. Last thing before bed was planting the strawberry seeds in the newly tilled and watered ground.

Day fourteen was another sunny day, with decent luck but the promise of rain the following day. First job was to harvest my ready crops and water the ones that were still growing; and then I was on my way to check the travelling merchant’s cart again, before heading to the Community Centre to deposit it for the bundle. That opened up the Centre’s bulletin board so that was the next thing to check. Then quickly back to the merchant’s cart to buy the truffle she had in stock, that I needed for the new Chef’s Bundle. I spent the rest of the day clearing more space on the farm, for the barn and coop I would need for the animal products for their bundles. I ended the week with over 1000 wood and closer to my sap goal to knock the bundle off my list.

Whew — two weeks down, plenty done and still plenty to do! I hope you’re enjoying my journey on this new farm. What would you like to read more about as I play through? Let me know in the comments!
